Classes Offered
Tap
Tap dance is a uniquely Indigenous American art form. Originally a fusion of European and West African musical step dance traditions that emerged in the United States in the 1700s, it has been popular since the 1920s. Tap remains strong today with very few changes in form and technique.
Jazz
Jazz class is by far one of the most important classes for a dancer. The class is upbeat, fun, and filled with high energy. Within our jazz classes, we utilize all of today’s popular music, while also “flashing back” to introduce students to classics from past generations.
Hip- Hop
Our most popular dance class today! With the popularity of MTV and VHI, this dance form has exploded! Hip hop is fun, funky, rhythmic, aerobic, and kool! It will definitely improve the dancer’s sense of rhythm and coordination
Ballet
Ballet class is the root or foundation of all dance! In order to be a superior dancer or to progress in other styles of dance at a desired rate, ballet training is essential. Ballet class teaches the technique needed to kick, leap, and turn and is responsible for developing your strength and flexibility.
Lyrical
Quite often there is confusion between Lyrical & Contemporary – What we believe is that Lyrical is a technique that is developed between your Jazz, Ballet, and Modern classes. Whereas Contemporary is a STYLE OF DANCE, not necessarily a technique. Thus Contemporary jazz, Contemporary Lyrical, Contemporary Ballet, etc. It is what’s new today!!! Contemporary means NEW & INOVATIVE.
Therefore we teach Contemporary in our lyrical Classes and quite often in our jazz & ballet classes, The style of the class is always determined by the individual teachers, Some teachers are absolutely more Contemporary in style while others are old school and more classical in style. We feel that we offer a great variety of styles with our extremely qualified teaching staff.
Modern
Modern Class is not bound by the classical rules/ techniques of Ballet class.
College dance programs are usually either ballet-based or modern-based, with a requirement to study both, but usually more of the emphasis is placed on one. Modern class is always done barefoot and employs a special technique for developing the use of the entire body in movement expressive of abstract ideas and not bound by the classical rules of ballet.
Cecchetti Ballet
We also offer the “CECCHETTI” graded method of Ballet technique. Our teachers are Cecchetti-certified teachers able to send the dancers in for graded exams. This is a technique & training system derived by the Italian Ballet Master Enrico Cecchetti (1850-1928). So you can see that it is one of the oldest and most revered Ballet techniques in the world today. The training system is especially concerned with anatomy within the confinement of classical ballet technique and seeks to train the dancer to be examined/adjudicated before being able to move on to the next level. (or grade)
Acrobatic Arts/Acro Stretch & Strengthening
Our acrobatic program uses strength and flexibility to perform gymnastic based tricks in class. This class teaches flexibility, balance, strength and coordination, all which helps a dancer excel. And of course they work on a variety of tumbling skills! We are an Acrobatic Arts certified studio.
